'THNGS" simply stands for "THeatre in Good Samaritan".
It is a theatre group run at Good Samaritan Primary School. A friend and I decided we would like to put together a theatre group for school students and approached the Principal of the school who agreed to be a part of this idea. We both have an interest in singing and drama with children. The school at the time, didn't have anything like this and so we were very excited to start this activity which has become a recognised group within the school community.
My role was in the form of director and coordinator of the performances.
We asked a local graphic artist to design a logo which is identified above. It became the logo for all correspondence with parents as well as promotional material ie ticket sales, notes and t-shirts.
Over 115 students participated in the initial year with an overwhelmingly successful production called "Once Upon a Time" by Bushfire Press as well as "Kids At Sea" which was also a production with over 120 students involved.
Parents and teachers came on board with costumes, make up and performance day support.
We had live music and an ex-student, who was only 12 at the time, ran the light show. It was a massive event where the students practised regularly.
Our local Church choir conductor also gave of their time to ensure the children "sang well".
I am very proud of this achievement in my personal life. To be able to give to a school community, in a volunteer basis, some of my skills as a teacher and performance instructor gave me much pleasure. And to be able to initiate such an event was gratifying in many ways.
I look forward all future"THINGS" production.
